SPECIFICALLY, USM WILL BE UNDER GRANT FOR THE FOLLOWING TASK: TASK DESCRIPTION: CLOUD COMPUTING FACES INCREASINGLY COMPLEX SECURITY CHALLENGES AS A SHARED USER, DISTRIBUTED DATA, MULTI-DEVICE AND MULTI-TENANT SYSTEM ENVIRONMENT. NEW ALGORITHMS BEING GENERATED AT USM TO DETECT MALICIOUS TEAM ACTIVITIES CAN BE APPLIED AS COMPONENTS OF DEFENSE STUDIES IN THE CLOUD COMPUTING ENVIRONMENT TO ASSESS THE ADEQUACY OF CLOUD COMPUTING SECURITY. ANONYMIZED USER LOG DATA FROM THE RASER CAN BE USED TO TEST, AND FURTHER INFORM THE DEVELOPMENT OF THESE ALGORITHMS. THIS WILL BE USM S PRIMARY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION SINCE THIS HAS BEEN BANERJEE'S FOCUS AREA OF SPECIALIZATION FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.THROUGH COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH, USM AND NASA HAVE DEVELOPED A NEW TECHNIQUE FOR ANOMALY DETECTION AND PROGNOSIS THAT WILL BE TESTED ON THE RASER (AS TIME PERMITS). POSSIBLE ANOMALOUS EVENTS TO BE CONSIDERED ARE THOSE ASSOCIATED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING (THERMAL MANAGEMENT AND ENERGY USAGE), SHOCK AND VIBRATION, AND EQUIPMENT FAILURE OR IMPENDING FAILURE. THE WORK UNDER THIS TASK WILL BE PERFORMED BEFORE SEPTEMBER 30, 2012 UNLESS OTHERWISE AGREED (FOR EXAMPLE IF THE RASER EQUIPMENT DELIVERY IS DELAYED), WITH THE FINAL COMPLETED DELIVERABLE DUE WITHIN 30 DAYS OF TASK COMPLETION. THE OAK RIDGE NATIONAL LAB (ORNL) IN TENNESSEE MANAGES THE SERRI PROGRAM FOR DHS. THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI (USM) WAS AWARDED A 2010 SERRI PROJECT ENTITLED THE POTENTIAL OF PHOTOCATALYTIC BUILDING MATERIALS FOR PROTECTING INFRASTRUCTURE AND DEVELOPING RESILIENCY TO NATURAL AND MANMADE DISASTERS (ORNL TASK ORDER #4000093232 ON ORNL CONTRACT #42000000225 WITH USM). NASA SSC MANAGES A REIMBURSABLE SPACE ACT AGREEMENT PARTNERSHIP WITH DHS TO EXPLORE GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGIES TO SUPPORT DHS FIRST RESPONDERS. DHS HAS PREVIOUSLY FUNDED PHOTOCATALYTIC RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AT SSC, AND NOW WISHES TO AUGMENT THE EXISTING SERRI RESEARCH PROJECT WITH USM TO EXTEND THE PHOTOCATALYTIC RESEARCH TO INCLUDE THE DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF A PHENOMENOLOGICAL PCAR MODEL FOR USE IN EXISTING AND PLANNED GEOSPATIAL PROGRAM ACTIVITIES. TASKS: 1. DEVELOP PCAR KINETIC MODEL. DEVELOP A PHOTOCATALYTIC ACTIVE RADIATION (PCAR) PHENOMENOLOGICAL-BASED KINETIC MODEL TO ACCOUNT FOR BOTH LIGHT AND DARK REACTIONS AND TO ADDRESS BOTH CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS.
